The fundamental design of this dining chair (it comes in several models/versions) was the winning entry in the 1948 New York Museum of Modern Art’s international ‘low cost furniture design competition’. In creating the design, Eames made effective use of groundbreaking processes and new materials and in the 1950’s it went on to be the first mass produced plastic chair. It remains to this day an iconic piece that defines an era yet still remains timeless.
Our Charles Eames DSW style chair is a high quality reproduction which closely respects the original specifications in terms of materials, build quality, design attributes and dimensions.
The chair features an ergonomically molded shell (or bucket) seat that has a high, flexible back and deep seat pocket which conforms to the contours of the body. The waterfall seat edge sustains comfort for lengthy durations by reducing pressure on the back of the thighs, making it perfect for long dinner parties and engaging conversation.
Constructed from extremely strong polypropylene, it is durable enough to withstand considerable punishment in the form of day to day knocks and bangs. This makes it an ideal family chair where kids and teenagers are concerned.
The only difference between the DSW and the DSR is that the base on the DSW is constructed from solid oak wood with black supporting steel rods. This is to facilitate taste differentials as some people prefer the warmer look of wood to the chrome.
The DSW looks equally at home in the dining room as it does in any other room or location, including lounges, offices, studies, libraries and bedrooms.
H: 82cm W: 46cm D: 54cm
